The right way to combine DOH and mobile

Most of the Times Square jumbotron & mobile stuff I see elicits a big “so what?”. Most of it is blindly techno-centric stuff that’s done to show off rather than illustrate anything useful. In the last couple of weeks, visitors to Times Square 12:30-2 and 6:30-8 have been able to call 888-376-4336, say the name of a business and see their search results displayed on either the Reuters or Nasdaq displays (the two biggest electronic billboards in the area for you non-New Yorkers). This was part pf the Verizon/Google Droid campaign – at the end of the call, users received an SMS directing them the nearest Verizon Store. I’m impressed and more than a little jealous of R/GA who seem to be doing more and more interactive ambient stuff lately.
